Lonispace has significant years of
experience in the practice of Master
Data Management (MDM) specifically
related to integrating enterprise
data in an orderly and structured
manner as it is externalised via
various interface types and or an
externalised Common Data Model (CDM)
and presented to the enterprise for
use in other applications or
environments (i.e part of a
migration solution architecture).
Data migration can be a difficult
task to perform particularly by the
organisation that owns the legacy
system, as it is a role rarely
performed and generally with little
process, methodology or tools
accessible to the internal
participants.
Lonispace employ a methodology
that assures our customers of a
robust, extensible and error free
migration architecture based on both
tried and best practice approaches
that have evolved from a range of
migrations completed in the
Financial Services markets in
Australia. Some of the key
attributes we focus on in the
migration are:
THE DISCOVERY PHASE - Provides a
detailed analysis of all key
artifacts within the migration
strategy
• Business Requirements to be
supported
• Functional Operations that exist
• The Security and Data Protection
Requirements
• The existing Solution Architecture
• The Solution Services Levels to be
supported
• Any Common Data Model (CDM)
• The External Interface Support
Requirements
• The Audit and Logging Requirements
• Exception Management
• The Migration Success Criteria
THE MIGRATION SOLUTION - Matches
the items above against our best
practice framework and recommends
where necessary any technology or
process changes
• A Migration Gap Analysis
• The Migration Architecture
• Security Realisation
• Service Level Realisation
• Adapters and External Interfaces
• Potentially a Common Service
Interfaces (CSI) and Common
Data Model (CDM)
• Functional Operations
• Audit and Logging Requirements
• Exception Management (overall
techniques, degrading re-try's,
logging, etc.)
• Migration Success Verification
(i.e. reports and other items
that are required to prove that the
migration worked)
THE DETAIL DESIGN - Provides a
forward looking architectural
framework that supports your current
migration strategy and highlights
any potential risk factors in the
framework. The detail design
migration includes items such as;
proposed tool set, dictionaries,
transformation, enrichment,
schema's, common object model,
source translation, cleansing,
harness types, exceptions, security,
deployment, source control,
libraries and test plans etc.
THE IMPLEMENTATION PHASE -
Defines the key sections for
deployment typically, Development,
System Test, UAT and Production,
further the key elements of
deployment are defined, as well as
the security model, global variables
and specific instructions for the
tools and applications selected for
the migration. Within the key
component architecture, elements
such as, source systems, target
systems, test harnesses,
transformations and interfaces are
further defined to name but a few of
the key elements in the
implementation phase for data
migration.
